Vista = Shit on a Stick – Part 2

About a year and a half ago I wrote a post about how much I hated Vista. It seems that alot of people agreed because there is now 55 comments on that post and its the most viewed post on my site. But since then I have been using Vista full time and my option of it has changed somewhat. I still think that it sucks but not as bad as I use to think.
I have Mint installed on this site just to see what everyone is looking at. So here are some stats. Of course the number one most viewed post is Vista = Shit on a Stick followed by a post I made about getting the Red Rings of Death. The top referrers I get are from search engines with the words Vista and Shit in them. And as a side note, the most used browser used is Firefox. But stats aren’t everything. Read more of this post
Vista’s Bad Design

I made a post about a year ago giving my thoughts on why I think Vista was bad. I gave it the title of Vista = Shit on a Stick. Turns out that alot of people felt the same way I do and left comments on why they think Vista is shit. At the time I wrote that post Vista was still very new and SP1 was not out yet but now it is.
Now that SP1 is out and I have been using Vista again for a few months it hit me. Its just bad design. Most of the time I don’t think about this but it hit me when I was using my girlfriends Mac Mini. The User Interface is like night and day and I am not talking about the fancy stuff like Expose on the Mac or Flip 3D on Windows. Its about how many clicks of the mouse will it take to get to where I need to go. To show how it is much better on a Mac I made three videos where all I wanted to do was change the time it take for the screen to shuts off. Read more of this post

Red Ring of Death caused by bad design

A year ago I posted about what I went thru when my Xbox 360 got the Red Ring of Death. At the time Microsoft would not say what the problem was other then saying it was a design issue. If you read my post about the RRoD you will see alot of comments with people having the same problem. Now it turns out that we may have the answer to what the hell is going on.
At EETimes.com they have a story about Bryan Lewis, research vice president and chief analyst at Gartner, and what he found out. It seems that the problem is the graphic chip that Microsoft designed on its own. Now why would a software company design there own graphic chip? To save millions. Of course in the end it cost them a lot more then they were tring to save but what the hell, good try. Read more of this post

Halo What?

There is this game coming out and I think its name is Halo. From what I can tell it has this guy in a green armor and it take place in space. Not sure what its about but dam if it isn’t everywhere.
Ya, we get it Bungie. Halo 3 is about to be released. And like Gears of War it is going to be the best game ever. Problem is that I don’t care anymore. You have Master Chief everywhere. Its just a game. We buy it, we play it and then me more on. Look at BioShock. Pretty good game but I am done with it. Not going to play it again. BioShock is Lost

A few weeks ago I wrote about the BioShock Demo and how cool it was. I wrote about how I was not really into it till the demo came out how it hooked me but the problem now is that I can’t find it. Really its no where to be found. I was at the mall today and went into GameStop and not one copy to be seen anywhere. Its unreal. Even with the messed up release of Gears of War there were still copies everywhere.
The part that sucks the most is that I was ready to pay the $60 for the game, something that I never do for a single player game, and nobody has it. I even went into a place I hate (Blockbuster) to see if it was there and of course it wasn’t. But the good part is that since I can’t find it I just saved $60 because now I will just wait till I can rent it for a few days and it will only cost me $5. On the other hand I am still going to spend the $60 when The Orange Box comes out.
Back Home on XP

I started off dual booting Vista and Ubuntu and loved it. Didn’t love getting the two to dual boot but once that was covered it was great. The only reason I was going into Vista was to use iTunes and download podcasts. Now I know that there are ways to download podcast and get them to your iPod on Linux but iTunes makes it so easy. Anyway after a keneral update, Ubuntu won’t boot and I didn’t fell like going over what could be wrong so I just formatted the drive and put Ubuntu as the only OS.
That was fine till I started trying to get Compiz-Fusion to work. Add that its still in beta and that I have a ATI card and that theres no real easy way to install video drivers in Ubuntu and I said fuck it again. Format the drive and get out my XP cd. Now that I am back on XP I don’t see any reason to go back to Ubuntu or upgrade to Vista. I really can’t think of anything that Ubuntu or Vista have that would want to make me switch. Maybe after Service Pack 1 for Vista comes out or Ubuntu gets a little better that might change but for now XP still has everything that I need.
WGA Gos Offline

So, Windows Genuine Advantage stops working. You know that little program that pings Microsoft every so often to see if your using Vista or XP legally. So what do you do if it go’s off-line? Don’t have it ping back to home right. Ok but most people don’t know how to stop that. Now lets say your installing XP or Vista and you have to ping home to get it to work fully, now what? You don’t get a fully working copy that’s what. When is going to be fixed? Microsoft support is saying not till Tuesday, August 28 – 3 days from now. And if you so get marked as non-genuine after it pings back don’t reboot. Then you have to call and go over all the crap just to prove you have a copy of Windows that you paid for. So how do you get away from all of this?
